Sociable cat breeds

Gaining the trust of a cat, regardless of whether it is a cross or a breed, takes time. It can be longer or shorter depending on the character (both the furry himself and ours), what tricks we use and the interest he shows in them. But the truth is that there are some with whom it can be somewhat easier to start building a beautiful friendship .

If you would like to know what sociable cat breeds exist , you cannot miss this special, especially if you have or are going to have children 😉.

More sociable cat breeds

Angora

The Angora are quiet cats who like to play. He has long and very elegant hair, so much so that you will surely not be able to resist stroking him when they meow. His character is ideal for any family, since he is sociable by nature. Their weight is 3-4 to 5kg and their life expectancy is 12-16 years .

European common

The common European cat is not considered as a breed for many; however, it is one of the felines that, treated correctly, can become very sociable . Of course, to be really affectionate I recommend adopting him as a kitten (two months or more), since this will make it much easier for you to educate him, in addition to enjoying his affection. The European cat that is adopted as an adult, although it can become the most affectionate animal in the world, is usually very distrustful of strangers.

Regarding its physical characteristics, it can weigh between 2.5kg and 7kg , the males being larger than the females. The hair can be long, short or semi-long, of any color: orange, black, white, gray, silver-gray, bicolor … And, the most important thing: its life expectancy is 20 years .

Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is one of the cat breeds that, in addition to being sociable and affectionate, is also one of the heaviest, literally speaking, and it can weigh up to 11kg ! It is an animal that we could label as “eternally young”: it enjoys playing, exploring its surroundings and, if there are small children at home, it will surely collaborate in some of their antics 😉.

So if you like “giant” cats, feel free to bring a Maine Coon home, especially if you have a fenced yard or yard, as it will love basking in the sun. Their life expectancy is also very long: 15 to 20 years .

Persian

The Persian cat is the most domestic and calm breed that exists; in fact, it is known as a »sofa tiger». It is a domestic feline much loved by all for several reasons: it is very calm, affectionate and sociable . He loves to enjoy the company of humans when they watch television, read a book, or are simply resting.

He’s a lazy friend who loves to be the center of attention, but even if he doesn’t feel like it too much, he needs to get some exercise to keep him from putting on extra pounds. Their weight is 3 to 7kg and their life expectancy is 15 years .

Ragdoll

Known as “Rag Doll”, the Ragdoll is a wonderful cat. Very calm, very affectionate and very sociable . It tends to purr more than meow, so with that I think I’ll tell you everything 🙂. The only thing, he does not like being held, but otherwise, it is very likely that he will chase you around the house.

It has a very soft coat, almost like cotton. It is an ideal breed for families with a calm character who have a lot of free time, since it does not like solitude. It weighs 4 to 9kg and has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years .

Siamese

The Siamese cat , whether traditional (Thai) or modern, is a four-legged animal with great curiosity. He loves to explore again and again what he considers his territory in search of something new . You can be very dependent on your caregivers, which is why it is only advisable to buy one if you have a lot of free time to dedicate to it.

Otherwise, as it has short hair it does not require many brushing, but it will be advisable to brush it once a day. In this way, the risk of hairball formation will be reduced. It weighs 2.5-5kg and has a life expectancy of 12 to 18 years .

How to make my cat sociable?

Many of us would like that the furry we have adopted did not remain hidden when visitors come, but how do we get it? Well, what we have to keep in mind is that each cat has its own character and its own history; That is, if that animal previously lived on the streets or has had a bad experience with humans, it probably does not want to spend time with them, except with its family.

For this reason, you should never force yourself to do anything. You have to respect your personal space at all times and get used to it little by little and gradually. You cannot take the cat that is shy and force it to be in a room with five or ten people, because most likely from that day on it would feel fear and / or insecurity every time someone wanted to pet it. Taking this into account, we must ask a single person who comes to visit to approach the furry with a treat for him. This visitor has to be placed at a distance of about 5 meters from him (or further if the animal gets nervous) , bend over and show him the treat .

Now, you have to let it come. If it does not come close, what you should do is throw out treats (and wait for it to eat them), first very close to the cat but then closer and closer to where she is . During that day, he will most likely not allow himself to be stroked, so you do not even have to try, but the next time the situation may be very different.

These steps must be repeated with each visit, with each different person who comes home. Thus, sooner rather than later we will accustom the cat, at least, to the presence of “strange people” at home. In any case, the most effective way to get a cat to be at least calm with strangers is to let it go around the house from day one . A kitten that every time someone has come in has entered a room until the visitor leaves, will be an adult cat who will not want to be with more people.

Nor can we forget his care, the treatment we give him. Only if he receives love and respect from us can he be a sociable cat . Even if we have a naturally affectionate race, if we do not treat it as it deserves it will not show itself that way.

I hope this article has been useful to you and you can find the sociable cat you are looking for 🙂.
