The savannah is the fruit of crossing a Serval and a Bengali. It retains some of its wild heritage, with added domestic and gentle traits. In fact, it seems to have the best of both worlds, as well as being incredibly beautiful.
It owes its name to the African grasslands where its close relative the serval is found, which helped lay the foundations of the breed: the first and subsequent generations come from a cross between a serval and a Bengali domestic cat . The International Progressive Cat Breeders Alliance (IPCBA) was the first multi-breed registry to recognize it. The objective of the breeding program for the savanna breed was to create a domestic cat with the physical traits that link it to the serval, but with the affable and dependable temperament of the typical domestic cat.
This breed has a large, muscular build, a long neck and large rounded ears, with clear eye markings that look like tears, hence its enormous resemblance to its wild ancestors.
Characteristics and temperament
The Savannah has a reasonably tame temperament. It makes a great family pet and extremely easy to care for. It turns out to be one of the most loyal cats that exist, with great intelligence and outgoing. Despite its part of wild nature, it is an ideal and excellent companion for children and other pets due to its good character with respect to others.
It is one of the races with one of the most interesting and elegant cloaks on the planet. This can be speckled, striped or even sometimes speckled.
Their coat colors are moderate compared to other types of feline breeds. The most typical colors are usually amber, silver, solid black, or smoke black.
