How to tell if a cat is Persian
Recognizing a Persian cat is not difficult and, without a doubt, the first two characteristics to analyze are the muzzle and the hair. In most of the specimens of this feline breed the muzzle is crushed with large and slightly protruding eyes and a head covered with very long hair.
This peculiarity of the Persian, the result of various crossings made by man over time, has become a bit the trademark of the feline race, although it can cause respiratory problems to the specimens that are equipped with it.
But it is not so obvious that a Persian has a flat muzzle! There are some who have a rounder face with the rounded muzzle and the slightly more protruding nose, elements that give them a decidedly softened and less “aristocratic” appearance.
The other distinctive trait of the Persian cat is obviously the hair: a very soft medium-long coat and silky, which requires some effort. The specimens of this breed cannot keep it completely clean, which is why they need their humans to take care of their hair every day and accurately.
How many types of Persian cats are there

As we have seen, there are essentially two different types of Persian cats that are distinguished by the shape of the muzzle. In the first case we speak of Persian “hyper typical” or “flat face”, or a specimen that has a flattened snout with large eyes and related respiratory problems and is the one “created” by man. In the second case we speak, instead, of the Persian “normotypical” or “doll face” (literally “doll face”), the one with the most rounded and sweetest looking snout, which makes it look like a doll, in fact.
But these are not quite all types of Persians. Do you think that by now there are so many farms and variations that it is practically impossible to list them all! One of the most beautiful and loved in the world is the Chinchilla Persian which, as can be deduced from the name, has a thick and soft coat very similar to that of the homonymous rodent. They are considered Persians (at least by feline associations that have not recognized them as separate breeds) also the Himalayan and the Exotic Short hair which are essentially short-haired versions.
What is the physical appearance of the Persian cat

We have learned how to recognize it by its muzzle and coat, but now it’s time to list the other characteristics of the Persian cat! First of all the build, which in the specimens of this feline breed is more robust and compact compared to other cats. Body and neck are generally short and stocky, like the tail, and the weight of an adult specimen varies from 3.5 to 5 kg.
As we have seen, the hair is medium long (or very long) and thick, which gives the cat the appearance of a miniature “little lion”. The color variants they are many and one more beautiful than the other: blue, black, colorpoint, cream and orange. The design of the coat can be: solid color, tabby blotched (marbled), tabby tiger(brindle), tabby spotted (spotted), or with another mix of white and other colors, both solid color and tabby.
Many say of the Persian that he is an “aristocratic” cat who is absolutely aware of his good looks: this can be deduced from his temperament docile and silent, and from the fact that he’d rather stay perched on the couch for hours than go play outside. Let’s just say that it’s difficult for him to dedicate himself to exploring the highest places in the house. But it is a cat extremely affectionate which does not demand too much attention but loves to receive it and is therefore an excellent pet.

How do I know if my cat is purebred?
With the little excursus we have just made, recognizing a Persian cat is now child’s play. But for the other races how can we do? The principle is the same: we must carefully observe the salient features of the Cat. A great way to do an early skim is to focus on the coat and coat characteristics, not just length but texture, patterns and color as well. If the topic intrigues you, we recommend the study Breed of the cat, how to recognize it? All the ways to be able to identify it.
How long do Persian cats live indoors?
The more a Cat is well cared for, the more its life expectancy increases. On average for a Persian they are calculated about 13 years old, but there are specimens that have abundantly demonstrated that this datum is absolutely relative. Especially a cat who lives at home, therefore away from external dangers such as diseases or parasites, can reach a record age.
But beware, however, of the problems that the Persian can run into. Being a very lazy person and a lover of long naps, he tends to accumulate weight and as a result can also become an obese cat.
